Psalm 110

This Psalm advances the idea of the Davidic King by teaching that the offices of King and Priest will be united in one who will be superior to David.

David’s superior is invited to serve at Jehovah’s co-regent in verses 1-3.

Verses 4-7 add a new dimension to the role of the King – He will also serve as Priest, that is, He will make atonement for sin.

The King of the tribe of Judah will be a Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek (4; 2 Samuel 7:16; 1 CHRON 17:14)
