THE LORD OUR RIGHTOUSNESS

Jeremiah 23:5-6; NKJV

5 "Behold, the days are coming," says the LORD,
"That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness;
A King shall reign and prosper,
And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.
6 In His days Judah will be saved,
And Israel will dwell safely;
Now this is His name by which He will be called:

THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.


Though the house of David had fallen (Amos 9:11), the prophets spoke of a time when a Davidic king would again rule Israel (Ezekiel 37:22-25; Hosea 3:5; Micah 4:1-8).


The family tree had been cut down, but a branch would grow from the stump (Isaiah 11:1; 53:2).


When John the Baptist announced that the kingdom was at hand, he was telling Israel that the time had come for Jehovah to again rule Israel through a son of David!  (see Luke 1:32-33; Mark 11:9-10)
